Zedruu's activated ability costs {U}{R}{W} and hands control of one of your permanents to an opponent. At your upkeep you gain X life and draw X cards, where X is the number of permanents you own that opponents control. Every gift becomes a permanent card draw engine. The deck runs cards that are bad to own, such as Torpor Orb, Humble Defector or drawbacks that hurt their controller, plus pillow-fort pieces like Propaganda and Ghostly Prison. Activating at instant speed lets you give something away at the end of an opponent's turn.
In the recorded games, Zedruu played a political, defensive game. Propaganda, Ghostly Prison and Humble Defector slowed attackers while the upkeep trigger kept the hand full. Chromatic Lantern and other harmless gifts often went to whoever could use them, which bought goodwill. Howling Mine and Temple Bell added more card flow, and Force of Will protected key enchantments. Torpor Orb and Rule of Law slowed combos but did not stop them. The deck lost to fast infinite combos and big aggressive boards, and Riftwing Cloudskate bouncing its lands set it back badly. Several games showed the deck surviving without a real way to close.
