The Triad costs ten generic mana, minus {1} for each historic card in your graveyard. Artifacts, legendaries and Sagas all count. Its activated ability exiles historic cards with total mana value 30 or more from your graveyard to give you an emblem: creatures you control have base power and toughness 9/9. The emblem is permanent, so even 1/1 artifact tokens become real threats. The deck self-mills, plays cheap artifacts and makes tokens to get there.
In the recorded games, early rocks like Sol Ring, Mind Stone and Currency Converter got the deck moving, and Ornithopter of Paradise fixed the colorless mana base. The emblem worked as a looming late-game threat that pushed opponents to act before it came online. Once it arrived, a board of tokens and small creatures could swing for lethal amounts. The slow ramp toward 30 total mana value in the graveyard left room for faster decks to get ahead.
