Rem Karolus is a 3-mana 2/3 with flying and haste. Damage from spells that would hit you or your other permanents is prevented. Damage from spells that would hit an opponent or their permanents gets +1. That makes symmetrical burn one-sided. Earthquake hits everyone else and leaves you untouched. Each instance gets the bonus too, so spells that deal damage several times grow quickly. The deck plays damage spells, cheap creatures and equipment, and attacks with Rem in the air.
In the recorded games, the best turns came from stacking spells: Price of Progress and Acidic Soil hit hard against nonbasic-heavy mana bases. Guttersnipe added damage per spell, and a big Earthquake set up the finishing swing. Dowsing Dagger fit well, since its Plant blockers can't stop a flier. Rem also played as a midrange removal deck when it had to answer an early threat. The weakness was clear. Once Rem died to something like Doom Blade or the deck lost tempo, it struggled to rebuild against control and value decks.
