Read more
Rayami replaces dying for every nontoken creature, yours and your opponents'. Instead of going to the graveyard, it is exiled with a blood counter. Rayami then has any of thirteen keywords found on those exiled cards, from flying and deathtouch to hexproof, indestructible and lifelink. The deck runs creatures with strong keywords and ways to make them die, so Rayami picks up evasion and protection as the game goes on.
In the recorded games, sacrifice outlets like Birthing Pod fed creatures into exile and made Rayami stronger each turn. Nighthawk Scavenger and Darksteel Myr were common keyword sources, giving flying, lifelink, deathtouch and indestructible at once. Once Rayami had evasion and protection, she won through combat. Seven games were recorded. The deck needed time to set up, and some games ended before Rayami got going. Note that her replacement effect also shuts off your own reanimation and death triggers, so lists that lean on the graveyard lose value.
