Queen Marchesa has deathtouch and haste, and she makes you the monarch when she enters, so you draw an extra card at each of your end steps. If an opponent takes the crown, your upkeep gives you a 1/1 Assassin with deathtouch and haste to go get it back. Holding the crown draws cards and losing it makes attackers, so the engine works either way. Most lists surround her with removal, attack deterrents and more monarch cards.
In the recorded games, the deck played as control. Ghostly Prison and Sphere of Safety kept attackers off, Merciless Eviction and Mob Rule swung the board, and Sun Titan with Karmic Guide rebuilt after wipes. Sunforger showed up as an instant toolbox, and Thespian's Stage copying Cabal Coffers gave some lists huge mana. Being the monarch paints a target, so the table often went after it early, and combo decks sometimes won before the card advantage mattered. Missed land drops also hurt. Expect a political, grindy game where the crown decides a lot.
