Purphoros, God of the Forge

$27.79

Purphoros is indestructible and stays an enchantment until you have five devotion to red. That barely matters, because the main ability works either way: whenever another creature enters under your control, Purphoros deals 2 damage to each opponent. A token maker that creates three goblins means 6 damage to every opponent. For {2}{R}, Purphoros also pumps your creatures by +1/+0 for a final attack. The deck is built around cheap token makers and repeated enter triggers.

In the recorded games, Siege-Gang Commander and Legion Warboss were the most common early engines, and Impact Tremors doubled the damage from each token. Norin the Wary was a favorite: it exiles itself whenever a spell is cast or a creature attacks, then returns at the end step and triggers Purphoros again. Squee, the Immortal and Spawning Pit helped turn sacrifices into more triggers, while Ruby Medallion kept creatures cheap. The deck pressured everyone at once, so opponents often focused on it early. Blasphemous Act and Anger of the Gods slowed it down, and bouncing Purphoros was more effective than trying to destroy it. It could also run out of cards in long games.
