Nikya of the Old Ways
$0.34
$0.34Legendary Creature — Centaur Druid
Gruul creature-only ramp that doubles all land mana and floods the board with big creatures for a combat finish.
Nikya of the Old Ways stops you from casting noncreature spells, but every time you tap a land for mana, you add one more of a type it produced. That doubles your land mana, so a fifth-turn Nikya can be followed by two or three large creatures the next turn. The deck is built almost entirely from creatures, with mana creatures, creature-based removal and big finishers taking the place of ramp spells and removal spells.
In the recorded games, the mana doubling let the deck cast several creatures per turn and get to its top end fast. Yavimaya Dryad and Fauna Shaman helped find lands and threats, and Craterhoof Behemoth was the classic finish for a wide board. Some lists leaned on counters with cards like Mowu, Loyal Companion. The restriction cut both ways. Without noncreature answers, board wipes and sacrifice effects hit it hard, and early pressure forced Nikya's pilot to chump block with utility creatures.
