For {1}{B}{R}, Magar takes an instant or sorcery card from your graveyard and puts it onto the battlefield face down as a 3/3. Whenever that creature deals combat damage to a player, you may create a copy of the noted spell and cast it for free. If the creature would leave the battlefield, it is exiled instead. The deck fills the graveyard with strong spells, animates them and pushes them through combat so every hit recasts a big spell.
In the recorded games, Dragon's Rage Channeler and discard outlets like Gamble put spells into the graveyard, and Storm-Kiln Artist and Young Pyromancer added treasures or tokens on each free cast. Temporal Extortion stood out, since a free extra turn each hit forced opponents to pay half their life or fall behind. Some lists built combos for repeated combat steps instead. The main weakness is that the 3/3s need to connect. Blockers and removal stopped the engine, Inquisition of Kozilek slowed it early, and it was often a step slower than real combo decks.
