Kykar, Wind's Fury

$0.50

Every noncreature spell you cast makes a 1/1 white Spirit with flying, and any Spirit can be sacrificed for {R}. That makes cheap spells close to free, since a one-mana red spell pays itself back through the token it creates. Kykar's own 3/3 flying body matters less than the engine. Builds range from token swarms that pump and attack, to storm lists that chain spells off the Spirit mana, to polymorph decks that turn tokens into something huge with Proteus Staff or Divergent Transformations.

In the recorded games, Kykar most often won by sacrificing Spirits to Goblin Bombardment or by adding ping effects like Impact Tremors to the token stream. Skullclamp kept the hand full, Cyclonic Rift handled boards, and faster lists built storm turns around Underworld Breach and Lion's Eye Diamond, protected by Fierce Guardianship. A few polymorph and equipment builds showed up too. The deck recovered well from wipes because each new spell rebuilt part of the board. Its weak points were a shaky three-color mana base, counterspells on the key combo piece, and artifact-heavy control that simply outlasted the 1/1s.
