Herigast is a 6/6 flier with emerge {6}{R}{R}. When you cast him, you may exile your hand and draw three cards. While he is on the battlefield, every creature spell you cast has emerge equal to its own mana cost, so sacrificing a creature knocks its mana value off the price. Big Eldrazi and Dragons get much cheaper, and stolen creatures make great fodder.
In the recorded games, the deck sacrificed small creatures, treasure-makers and borrowed opponents' creatures from threaten effects to cast large Eldrazi early. Treasure helped get Herigast down in the first place. The lists varied a lot, with some leaning on Dragons and Orb of Dragonkind. Mana consistency was the main complaint, since the deck needs fodder and Herigast both on the battlefield before the discounts work. Losing Herigast to removal left a hand full of expensive creatures.
