Frodo, Adventurous Hobbit

$0.34

Frodo has vigilance, and whenever he attacks, the Ring tempts you if you gained 3 or more life that turn. Once Frodo is your Ring-bearer and the Ring has tempted you twice, each of those attacks also draws a card. He partners with Sam, Loyal Attendant, who makes a Food at the beginning of combat and makes Food abilities cost {1} less. Crack that Food for 3 life before attacks and Frodo's trigger is set up every turn. The Ring-bearer also can't be blocked by creatures with greater power.

In the recorded games, the deck lived on Food and small life gain triggers. Belladonna Took and Elanor Gardner turned Food and tokens into extra life and lands, and some lists added Doubling Season or Prosperous Innkeeper to go wide with tokens. One version used the pair as a shell for a Protean Hulk and Cauldron Familiar combo. Most games were slow and steady: Frodo drew a card per attack and dealt commander damage while the board grew. The deck struggled when it couldn't gain 3 life in a turn or fell behind faster boards.
