Whenever you cast a spell from exile, or a permanent you control enters from exile, Zuko puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. Impulse draw, foretell-style cards, blink and flicker effects all feed this. Zuko also has firebending equal to his power, so each attack adds that much red mana until end of combat. As his counters stack up, attacks produce more mana for more spells from exile.

In the recorded games, Prosper, Tome-Bound and Fire Lord Ozai added more exile play and mana, Fire Nation Turret handed out extra firebending, and token makers widened the board. Abzan Falconer gave everything with counters flying, which made the team hard to block. Some lists finished with large X burn spells cast off firebending mana. The deck was strongest with an early Zuko and fell behind when he was removed or the board got wiped, since the counters sit on creatures rather than the commander alone.
