Baeloth is a 5-mana 2/5. Every opposing creature with less power than Baeloth is goaded, which means it must attack each combat and attack someone other than you if possible. Whenever a goaded creature dies while attacking or blocking, you make a Treasure. The deck pumps Baeloth's power so more creatures fall under the effect, and often pairs him with a Background for a second color.

In the recorded games, Baeloth set the tempo of combat for the whole table. Opponents' small creatures were forced into bad attacks against each other, and players often looked elsewhere because the Baeloth player rarely seemed like the main threat. The usual plan was patience: let the others trade, collect Treasures, then finish weakened players with big creatures. It struggled when opponents' creatures grew past Baeloth's power, since the goad then stops applying, and the deck had little to do if the table simply didn't attack into each other.
