Ayara, First of Locthwain
$6.05
$6.05Legendary Creature — Elf Noble
Mono-black aristocrats where every black creature drains each opponent, then sacrifices to draw, ending with Exquisite Blood combos or a Gray Merchant.
Whenever Ayara or another black creature enters under your control, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1. She can also tap and sacrifice another black creature to draw a card. That gives the deck a simple loop: play black creatures and tokens to drain the table, then cash them in for cards once they have done their job. Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Chittering Witch and Blood Artist add more drain, and Exquisite Blood with Sanguine Bond is the infinite combo most lists carry.
In the recorded games, Ayara mostly ground opponents down rather than killing quickly. Ophiomancer gave a fresh snake every turn to drain and sacrifice, Cryptbreaker built a zombie army, and Midnight Reaper and Morbid Opportunist kept the cards flowing. Bontu's Monument added another drain source, Syphon Mind refilled the hand, and Bolas's Citadel with Aetherflux Reservoir was a second combo route. Tutors helped find the pieces. The drain was steady but slow early, so the table had time to answer. When an opponent removed Exquisite Blood the combo plan stalled, and lists without board wipes struggled against wide token boards or large creatures.
