Arcum taps to make a player sacrifice an artifact creature, and that player may then search for a noncreature artifact and put it onto the battlefield. Aimed at your own Myr or a Cathodion, that is a free tutor that skips casting entirely. The deck runs cheap artifact creatures as fodder, fast mana like Mana Crypt and Grim Monolith, and a short list of targets that turn one activation into a combo. Pointing him at an opponent's artifact creature works as removal, though it hands them a tutor too.
In the recorded games, Paradox Engine was the most common target. With a few rocks and an untap effect it made infinite mana, and Walking Ballista or Citanul Flute loops finished the job. Grim Monolith with Voltaic Key, Basalt Monolith with Rings of Brighthearth, and Unwinding Clock found through Inventors' Fair were the other mana engines. Some lists went for Portal to Phyrexia, copied with Sculpting Steel, to wreck everyone's board. Arcum was slow to set up and needed to survive a turn on the table. Grand Arbiter Augustin IV taxes, counters like Negate, and removal held in response to his activation were what stopped it. Swan Song and redundant combo pieces helped it push through.
