Aegar draws you a card whenever a creature or planeswalker an opponent controls is dealt excess damage, as long as a Giant, Wizard or spell you controlled damaged it that turn. Lightning Bolt on a 1/1 draws a card, and so does a huge Giant blocked by something small. The deck combines burn, X-cost damage spells and Giant or Wizard creatures, so removal also refills the hand. Damage sweepers are especially good because each creature they kill can trigger Aegar separately.
In the recorded games, Aegar played as board control that slowly turned into pressure. X-cost spells were sized to overkill blockers and draw cards, and Arcbond once wiped the board while drawing several cards. Some lists went heavy on Giants, while others were mostly spells with Ral Zarek and spell copying as combo pieces. Lightning Greaves protected Aegar so the engine could keep running. The deck's draw depends on opposing creatures, so creature-light opponents blunted it, and decks with fast recovery like land-based ramp rebuilt quickly after its sweepers.
